A day at La Palmyre Zoo
Created in 1966 by Claude Caillé, the park is still owned by his family, a family commitment that is reflected in the quality of the welcome and the care given to the animals. The park covers 18 hectares. With its 1,600 mammals, birds and reptiles belonging to over 100 different species, it’s one of Europe’s most renowned zoological parks, with the Qualité Tourisme™ label.
Every year, the zoo registers several hundred births and plays a major role in saving endangered species by participating in over 60 European Breeding Programs (EBP). Its Palmyre Conservation endowment fund also finances protection programs worldwide: orangutans and elephants in Borneo, lemurs in Madagascar, gorillas and chimpanzees in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cape penguins in South Africa, giant otters in French Guiana…
Don’t miss the sea lion and parrot shows, on offer from Easter to All Saints’ Day, a lively, educational spectacle that delights children and adults alike! The shady paths wind through the pine forest, allowing you to visit at your own pace. A picnic area, fast-food outlets, a store and free parking are available on site for a comfortable day out.
